One month into Colombia! This has been an amazing and challenging experience. The Lord has taught me so much in my time here. But this blog is about what I have been doing here. The work that I have done so far includes: Recycling, Kitchen, homeless ministry, School ministry, futbol, and just making relationships with people at the foundation.

What is recycling? Recycling is where we take apart these cardboard bag type things. We do this so that the foundation can go and sell them afterward. This is used as a large part of their revenue and helps them keep going.

What is kitchen? You might think that means cooking for the squad. Nope! They have a team in the foundation that cooks. What we do is cut up a lot of veggies so that they can either cook them or sell them on the street later. While this seems simple and easy, I forgot to explain that every veggie is half rotten, and what we are cutting off are the wet, gross, soggy parts of it. At the end you have what we call apple sauce all of over you. But really it is rotted cabbage. It’s ok though because it helps our room smell great! On a serious note though I had a great time doing kitchen and I’m glad I could help in that way.

What is Homeless ministry? Well homeless ministry actually has multiple parts to it. A large part of what this foundation is is a shelter for the homeless meaning about 45 men need to come into the foundation every night. (they have there own space away from us) With that they all have to be checked and searched for things like weapons and drugs. So two men a night go down. One does pat downs and the other searches there bags. Most of the men are just thankful to be there so it’s not to bad. You actually build some none verbal relationships with a few of them! But that’s not all we do for homeless ministry. We also help run a service for them every Saturday. This helps to show them the gospel and also just give them something fun to do. For example the leader of the foundation asked us to preform a skit for them one of the weeks. (we did not get to choose the skit) It actually went well funny enough. But most of the time it is just things like worship or sharing testimonies. But guess what? That’s not all we do for homeless ministry! We also go once a week to what they call the Broncs. This is a place with the worst homeless problem i have ever seen in my life. It also had the worst demonic presence I have ever felt in my life. What we do there is bring lots of food and drinks to them but we also give them to information to the foundation so that they can look into it.  But the most important thing we do is pray and spread the gospel. While it is difficult with the language barrier we do all that we can!

School ministry! We have done two different things for school ministry. First helping teach English to the kids that learn at the foundation. But second going out to a school and helping teach them English. This looks more like just talking to them but it is still a great time.

Futbol!!!!!!!!! Soccer is so fun! Twice a week we go out with the men that are going through the program and go play soccer with them. This is so fun and it is an amazing way to grow relationships with them. I’m also not bad a defense…

As I said making relationships with the people here is a big part of our ministry. I love the people so much and it is so fun to get to know them. While it is difficult with the language barrier it is still so amazing! It’s actually kind of hilarious working together with them because it is just all caveman grunts with gestures. Funny enough it works really well.

I have had such an amazing time here already and I’m glad I get another half month here!

Please be praying for the men in the program here. Also just be praying for the men addicted to drugs. That is a large problem here!
